By Patrick Seidl, CNP – Maryland CASA Association

Maryland CASA Association is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that supports the work of 14 Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs serving children in Baltimore City and 19 counties throughout Maryland. Our mission is to ensure all abused and neglected children their right to safe, permanent homes. We strive to achieve this mission through raising public awareness about children who are under the court’s protection as a result of maltreatment, and recruiting volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Maryland CASA Association’s charity team, Team CASA, is participating for its sixth consecutive year in the Baltimore Running Festival. Last year our team consisted of more than 140 runners, walkers and volunteers who came together to raise nearly $50,000 to support our efforts on behalf of Maryland’s abused and neglected children.  We are working hard for an even better result in 2014 – but we need YOUR help!

Team CASA - Baltimore Running Festival

Currently we are about 35 runners/walkers short of our goal of 150 that will guarantee Maryland CASA a tent at the Festival. Reaching this goal will give us the opportunity to provide Team CASA participants with a place to meet for pre and post-race fueling and refreshment. A Team CASA tent would also serve as a location for us to showcase our sponsors and, most importantly, to help spread the word about Maryland CASA.  We are also seeking additional sponsors to help us reach our fundraising goal and volunteers to help out on race day.

Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, 9 out of 10 children in Maryland do not have advocates to speak for them. With your support, we can increase our capacity to serve more and more of Maryland’s foster youth.
